This month we are delighted to be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of M&S Distributors. It’s been a long road from our humble beginnings at Bells Close, Lemington in 1982 when the company was founded by Ron Slater & George Mordue. Ron and George were the only two employees in those days and both worked 7 days a week for many years to get the company firmly established.
During the last 40 years our company has grown tremendously in all areas. Previously we were very much a small family run business but we have now expanded to 25 employees. Within 9 years we outgrew Bells Close and needed to expand so we moved to our current base at Newburn in 1991 where we built our first new warehouse and this was followed in 2020 by our second.
Upon the retirement of the business founders in 2001 the running of the company passed on to the next generation and is currently being managed by George and Ron’s sons, Ian Mordue and Mark Slater. Originally, we were mainly a fasteners and fixings company but in recent years we have diversified into tools, PPE and consumable items with vendor managed inventory options including kanban systems and vending machines.
More recently in 2015 we rebranded our business to MASFIX to give us a fresh new look in keeping with the times demonstrating that we are a confident business ready to move forward and are always looking to improve our business offering. We could see the importance of sustainability in all our customers strategies as well as our own and felt it important to offer customers sustainable alternatives, so in 2020 we partnered with Ekobox, offering sustainable options in PPE and end of life options for your PPE.
Managing Director, Mark Slater said “40 years on we continue to grow thanks to the hard work of all of our staff and a strong customer base across many industry sectors. We are looking forward to marking this occasion with a night out for all the staff and their partners on the 30th September. This will take place at the home of the Newcastle Falcons Rugby team when they take on Bristol. We hope for a good result with which to start next 40 years.”
