Steel dome nuts, also known as acorn nuts or crowned hex nuts, are a specific type of fastener designed with a domed or rounded top. They are typically made of steel and conform to the DIN1587 standard, which specifies the dimensions and characteristics of these dome head nuts.

The dome shape of these nuts serves both functional and aesthetic purposes. Functionally, the rounded top provides a protective cover for exposed threads or protruding bolts, commonly used in applications where the exposed end of a bolt or threaded rod requires protection, such as in furniture assembly, architectural structures, automotive parts, and outdoor installations minimising the risk of injury and preventing damage to surrounding objects or materials. Aesthetically, the smooth and rounded appearance of the dome nut offers a visually appealing finish.

Dome nuts are internally threaded and have a hexagonal base, allowing them to be easily tightened or loosened using a wrench or socket. They are available in various sizes, thread pitches and are zinc plated for increased protection against corrosion .
